Russian helicopter crash in Kerch Strait results in one pilot dead and another missing

A pilot died, and another is missing after a Russian helicopter crashed into the Kerch Strait while on patrol.
The information came from a source connected to the Russian military and was reported by the Ukrainian military portal Militarnyi.
Russia has recently joined forces with the North Korean military, though both country’s personnel have reportedly not gotten along.
There have been several Russian helicopters that have crashed throughout the war with Ukraine, some carrying supplies and medical personnel, others trying to intercept missiles coming from drone strikes.
The Kerch Strait crash resulted from a mission to intercept a missile when the pilot lost control of the helicopter and crashed into the water.
“The helicopter was part of ongoing operations to protect the Kerch Bridge, which Russian forces use as a key supply route to occupied Crimea. Russian Mi-28 and Ka-52 helicopters regularly patrol the area, conducting both bridge defense and drone interception missions,” the report said.
“Additionally, Russia has boosted the defenses of the bridge, adding more booms at sea and installing more air defense systems,” the report added.
Another Mi-28 chopper crashed in Kaluga Oblast in late July 2024 as well, which left everyone on board dead as they tried to intercept a drone.
Additionally, yesterday, a Mi-2 helicopter crashed in Russia’s central Kirov region on Saturday, killing all four people on board, emergency officials reported.
The helicopter, operated by one pilot and carrying a doctor and two paramedics, crashed in a forest near the village of Beleenki, about 435 miles east of Moscow, according to an online statement from Russia’s Emergency Ministry.
Rescuers initially only found three bodies at the site of the crash but later located the fourth, the ministry said.
